For all the superlatives that have been used about the gorilla’s physical similarity to humans – the emotional eyes, the dexterous hands, etc. – it was the attitude that struck me more. There was no curiosity, certainly no fear, but rather a nonchalant apathy to our presence. His eyes watched us as he chewed the vegetation, but once he became bored he simply rose and sauntered away into the ferns, and we never saw him again.
